Artist Biography

Michele Simpson

Michele Simpson (b. 1961, Wellington, NSW) is a self-taught Australian contemporary landscape painter based in Dubbo. Born into a farming family, she developed a lifelong love of the land and environment, which inspires her art. Having recently stepped back from farming, she now dedicates more time to her creative practice.

Working primarily in textured acrylics, her paintings are often based on her own photographs and interpretations of landscapes from the land, sea, and air, using intense colours to convey the vibrancy and drama of Australia’s natural environments.

Her work has featured in the Wellington Arts Threatened Species Exhibition (2023, 2024 — winner 2024), Art Unlimited Dunedoo (2018, 2025), and Dubbo Art Fair (2025). Simpson has also served as Treasurer and Secretary of Fresh Arts Dubbo (2013–2015).
